Abstract | Hand detection & gesture recognition is used as a cornerstone technique for many smart systems in the current era. Various approaches are proposed for the hand detection and gesture recognition. In this paper, I address the hand detection & gesture recognition for controlling the appliances and a brief comparison with other hand detection & gesture recognition techniques is provided. Initially, real time images are fetched from an ordinary webcam with a resolution of 320x240. Skin detection algorithm is used to detect the hands from incoming images sequence. Image resize technique is used to speed up the skin detection process which makes it ideal to implement on a real time system. The gesture of hand is recognized by using the technique of correlation and voting for the best value of correlation for a particular gesture of hand. Finally, particular appliance will turn on/off via parallel or serial port of computer after the recognition of a particular gesture of hand. |
